Anytime a film deals with imaginary friends, especially creepy ass ones living within the walls, a feeling of uneasiness that I cannot escape! In the film, (young) Claire would seek comfort in her imaginary friend that lived in the walls after suffering abuse from her mother. Now an older Claire has ghostly images and begins to witness devilish trends surrounding her, for instance, sewing needles violently pulling at her face. A supernatural force is pushing Claire into the mouth of madness giving Claire ammunition to reinforce her strong belief that Bethany may not be make-believe like she once thought as a child.
James Cullen Bressack not only directs the film but also co-wrote the film with Zach Ward, who also co-stars in the film as Claire’s husband.
No matter how comfortable or predictable James Cullen Bressack’s Bethany plays out at times, the story delivers supernatural terror and suspense that will for sure cater to genre fans! Bressack’s use of low lighting adds to the suspense of the film giving off a dreamlike effect. Considering the low budget, the film is well executed; this is definitely because Bressack is at the helm. Another edition of the film is comedian Tom Green who plays a psychiatrist for the couple (Claire & Husband). Green had a substantial amount of time on screen, and I enjoyed his character. Another familiar face joining us is 90210 Actress, Shannen Doherty and plays Claire’s mother. I would have liked to have seen more of Shannen; she did not receive enough screen time. However, it was refreshing to see her and Green in this film. Family conflict and secrets appear to be the derivative keeping the plot moving forward, and I am okay with that, it is just sinister and creepy!
